Job summary

Lightship is hiring a Staff Chassis Systems Design Engineer to lead the design, development, integration, and validation of vehicle chassis structures and mechanical systems. You will own components from concept to production release and work with multiple teams to ensure robust, manufacturable designs.

The role requires strong mechanical fundamentals, CAD ability, and experience with GD&T, FEA, and supplier interfaces. Competitive benefits accompany a salary in the 130k–150k range.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field; M.S. preferred.
• 8+ years of mechanical or structural design in automotive or related industry.
• Experience from concept to prototype, validation, and production release.
• Understanding of loads, stiffness, fatigue, and bolted joints.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD and engineering drawings; CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE preferred.
• Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and DFA/DFF concepts.
• Experience with chassis manufacturing processes and supplier collaboration.
• Strong communication and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop vehicle chassis systems and components from concept through production.
• Translate requirements into detailed designs meeting targets for strength, mass, cost, and manufacturability.
• Define load cases, load paths, and perform static, fatigue, and deflection analyses.
• Develop interfaces, tolerances, datums, and packaging with GD&T.
• Create and release production-quality 3D CAD drawings and specifications.
• Select materials and manufacturing processes for performance and cost targets.
• Lead or support DFMEA, PFMEA, and design verification activities.
• Support prototype and production builds and resolve fit, function, and assembly issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including suspension, powertrain, and suppliers.
