Scribd, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Everand Core team to shape backend direction, powering discovery, personalization, and core consumption journeys for readers.

You will own backend design and cross-team collaboration with search, recommendations, web, mobile, and ML partners. You will drive reliability, observability, and performance while mentoring engineers and advancing architectural goals across the backend platform.

Qualifications

• Experience building and scaling distributed backend systems.
• Proficient in Ruby, Scala, Go, or Python.
• Strong focus on reliability, observability, and SLOs.
• Technical leadership with mentoring and architecture direction.
• Ability to collaborate with product, design, and ML teams.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for Everand backend and socialize design documents.
• Own backend reliability, staging, CI/CD, databases, queues, cost, and observability.
• Mentor engineers and raise the team’s design and testing standards.
• Be the Everand backend voice in cross-team planning and execution.
• Foster technical excellence while delivering scalable, reliable systems.
• Modernize legacy systems and reduce technical debt to improve velocity.
• Partner with Product, Design, Analytics, and Web/Mobile/ML engineers to support experimentation and a single source of truth across platforms.
