Job summary

Scribd, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Everand Core team in San Francisco, CA. You will own the backend platform powering Everand's discovery, personalization, and consumption journeys, shaping the future of how readers discover and enjoy books.

You will partner with product, design, analytics, and ML engineers to drive architecture, reliability, and performance, writing clean, scalable code and mentoring others to raise the team's technical bar.

Qualifications

Significant experience in backend engineering and scaling distributed systems.
Proficient in Ruby (preferred) or Scala, Go, or Python.
Strong focus on reliability, observability, metrics, and SLOs.
Track record of technical leadership and large-scale migrations or modernization efforts.
Comfort working with PM, design, and ML partners to land the system well.

Responsibilities

Set technical direction for the Everand backend and socialize design documents.
Own backend reliability and platform health, including CI/CD, databases, queues, cost, and observability.
Mentor engineers and raise the team's bar on design, testing, and ops.
Be the Everand backend voice in cross-team planning and cross-functional execution.
Champion scalable, observable systems that let teams move fast and deliver confidently.
