You will own the backend platform, drive architecture reviews, and partner with product and ML teams to deliver fast, personal, and reliable reader experiences. Qualifications

• Extensive backend experience with scalable distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Ruby, Scala, Go, or Python.
• Focus on reliability, observability, SLOs, metrics, and alerts.
• Proven leadership: architecture direction, mentoring, large migrations.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration with PM, design, ML teams.

Responsibilities

• Set backend technical direction and socialise design docs.
• Own backend reliability, CI/CD, databases, queues, observability.
• Mentor engineers and raise team bar on design and testing.
• Collaborate across teams to deliver scalable backend systems.
• Modernize legacy systems and reduce technical debt.
• Partner with Product, Design, Analytics, Web/Mobile/ML engineers.
• Champion user-first mindset for reading/listening experiences.
