Connectis is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to own parts of a real-time distributed backend written in Python and Rust. You will lead large initiatives with minimal guidance, drive platform reliability, and coordinate SOC 2 compliance activities. Ideal candidates bring 10+ years in Python and prior staff-level experience at startups.

Remote collaboration is standard, with a focus on delivering high-quality, scalable cloud-based infrastructure and strong ownership across teams.

Qualifications

10+ years of experience in Python development.
Previous experience as a Staff or Principal Engineer at a startup.
Leadership experience, including leading teams and large projects.
Deep understanding of networking protocols and operating systems.
Strong Python profiling knowledge.
Experience delivering and troubleshooting a production-grade cloud-based distributed system.
Experience with Kubernetes and Helm.
Experience with observability stacks and gRPC.

Responsibilities

Own parts of the core backend infrastructure in a real-time distributed system written in Python and Rust.
Lead large, ambiguously defined initiatives end-to-end with minimal guidance.
Drive down incident rate and resolve stability issues on the platform.
Handle SOC 2 related responsibilities and coordinate with the responsible person.
Improve development velocity while maintaining high reliability.
