Job summary

Fetch Platform Engineering seeks a Staff Backend Engineer to design and build systems behind developer tooling and workflows. You will own architecture, define standards, and mentor engineers across teams, shaping scalable, reliable platform capabilities.

This role combines hands-on development with high-impact architectural decisions and influence across multiple domains, with a prime focus on reliability and developer velocity.

Qualifications

• 12+ years designing, building, and operating backend or platform systems at scale.
• Strong programming background in Go, Python (Kotlin/Swift a plus).
• Experience owning architecture for complex distributed systems.
• Hands-on with AI-assisted development tools and platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design and build tools, SDKs, and evaluation frameworks to improve developer velocity.
• Architect core building blocks for cross-platform backend reliability.
• Build observability, governance, telemetry, and metrics for developer tooling.
• Evolve internal libraries and reusable components with lifecycle governance.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging developer tools and AI-assisted capabilities.
• Lead architectural decisions across multiple services and domains.
• Identify opportunities for platformization to accelerate development.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Data to align technical investments.
