Job summary

Fetch is hiring a Staff Backend Engineer to design and build the systems behind the developer experience. You’ll own architecture across tooling, test infrastructure, and engineering workflows, and hands-on build SDKs, reusable components, and shared platforms that raise velocity and quality across the company.

This senior technical role emphasizes system design and execution, with mentorship across teams and influence on architectural direction and standards.

Qualifications

• 12+ years designing, building, and operating backend or platform systems at scale.
• Strong architecture ownership for complex distributed systems and high-impact tradeoffs.
• Independent translation of ambiguous goals into robust designs with clear tradeoffs.
• Experience with developer platforms, internal tooling, APIs, SDKs, and reusable libraries.
• Hands-on with AI-assisted development tools to boost velocity and quality.
• Proven track record shipping production agents and tuning workflows across planning, execution, and verification.

Responsibilities

• Design and build tools, SDKs, and evaluation frameworks to improve engineering velocity and quality, including AI-assisted workflows.
• Architect core building blocks like cross-platform contract testing and unified components for backend, mobile, and data.
• Develop observability and governance for developer tooling with telemetry and metrics for productivity and quality.
• Design and evolve internal libraries and marketplaces of reusable templates with governance and lifecycle management.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging developer tools and turn promising ones into production-grade capabilities.
• Lead architectural decisions across multiple services and domains, balancing reliability and cost.
