Job summary

Fetch is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to design and evolve the backend systems behind our real-time advertising platform. You will build high‑throughput, low‑latency services powering ad decisions at scale.

You will set technical standards, mentor engineers, and drive cross‑team initiatives spanning Ads, Platform, Data and ML. A strong background in distributed systems and observability is essential, with a track record of reliable production systems.

Qualifications

• Experience designing, building, and operating distributed backend systems at production scale.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems: partitioning, replication, consistency, caching, concurrency, failure isolation.
• Strong API design and service boundary skills for complex systems.
• Experience with observability: metrics, tracing, structured logs, alerting.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture across Ads services and backend components.
• Design for reliability, resilience, and operational excellence with SLOs and alerting.
• Evolve event-driven and data-intensive architectures across stores, streaming, and caching.
• Set engineering standards adopted by multiple teams and programs.
• Lead major refactors, migrations, and system-health initiatives to improve velocity.
• Define multi-quarter initiatives shaping Ads org direction and align with Data/ML teams.
• Mentor senior engineers and drive best practices for distributed systems.
