Job summary

Checkr, Inc. is seeking a Staff Engineer within the Screenings & Verifications group to drive the technical architecture of complex, multi-system workflows. You will own product development end-to-end, mentor engineers, and raise the technical bar across teams.

You will collaborate with Design, Product, Data, and other stakeholders to deliver scalable, high-performance screening and verification features that power reliable risk assessments for customers across industries.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of software development experience and 3+ years in a project leadership role.
• Deep expertise in backend development (e.g., Ruby, Node.js) with frontend knowledge (JavaScript, React).
• Experience building scalable systems with automated testing, observability, and high performance.
• Strong ownership from feature design through production release.
• Ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, project management, and mentoring skills.
• Bias for action and delivering meaningful outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Own development of the product from ideation, design, implementation, to release.
• Collaborate with Design, Product, Data to instrument and deploy new features.
• Lead technical initiatives to enable growth at scale and address technical debt.
• Mentor engineers across the team.
• Share development best practices through docs and knowledge sharing.
• Partner with product and engineering management in planning activities.
