Scribd, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Everand Core team to shape backend discovery, organization, and experiences.

You will own the backend platform powering Everand’s web and mobile experiences, collaborating with search, recommendations, web, and ML teams to align technical decisions with user needs. You will champion scalable, reliable systems, socializing design documents, leading architecture reviews, and driving continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Significant backend engineering experience with distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Ruby, Scala, Go, or Python.
• Strong focus on reliability, observability, and SLOs.
• Track record of technical leadership: architectural direction and migrations.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for Everand backend and socialize design docs.
• Own backend reliability, staging, CI/CD, databases, queues, observability.
• Mentor engineers, conduct PR reviews, and drive high design and testing standards.
• Lead cross‑team planning as the Everand backend voice and glue for execution.
• Build scalable, observable systems and drive velocity while reducing complexity.
• Modernize legacy systems and tackle technical debt to improve velocity.
