Job summary

Scribd, Inc. seeks a Staff Software Engineer for the Everand Core team to shape the backend powering Everand’s reading and listening experiences. You’ll own backend services, drive design and architecture, and collaborate with search, recommendations, web, and mobile engineers, product partners, and data teams.

You will champion reliability, scalability, and measurable improvements, delivering high‑quality code and guiding a culture of technical excellence across teams.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in backend engineering and scaling distributed systems.
• Proficient in Ruby, Scala, Go, or Python; strong system design skills.
• Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and large-scale modernization experience.
• Strong focus on reliability, observability, and SLO definition.
• Able to collaborate with product, design, ML, and analytics partners.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for Everand backend and drive architecture reviews.
• Own backend reliability, staging, CI/CD, databases, queues, observability.
• Mentor engineers, perform PR reviews, and promote design excellence.
• Collaborate across teams to deliver scalable, data-driven backend systems.
• Modernize legacy systems and reduce technical debt.
