Job summary

Okta's Core Engineering team is hiring a staff level backend engineer to build and scale cloud infrastructure. You will design, implement and optimize backend services using Java, Spring Boot and distributed systems.

The role emphasizes code quality, testing, and collaboration with architects, QA, and security teams. You will work on high-impact projects with a weekly release cycle, mentoring junior developers and driving performance improvements across Kubernetes deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent; Master’s preferred.
• 8+ years of expansive programming experience in an object-oriented language like Java, backend services.
• 3+ years experience with MySQL or equivalent relational databases.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and deliver cloud-based infrastructure projects on a modern tech stack (Redis, Docker, Terraform on AWS).
• Provide code reviews, write unit and functional tests, and ensure high programming standards.
• Operate, monitor, troubleshoot and scale shared services and frameworks as usage grows.
