Job summary

Okta’s Core Engineering team is seeking a staff level backend engineer to design and deliver cloud-based infrastructure using Redis, Docker, and Terraform on AWS. You will join a fast-paced team with weekly releases and ownership of critical services.

You will mentor junior developers, perform design reviews, and ensure high-quality code through tests and performance tuning in a large-scale enterprise environment. Equity, bonus and comprehensive benefits are offered in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent; master's preferred.
• 8+ years of expansive programming experience in an object-oriented language like Java, backend services.
• 3+ years experience with MySQL or equivalent relational databases; design & tuning.
• 3+ years experience with Kubernetes; AWS EKS a plus; GCP a plus.
• Experience with REST; knowledge of gRPC a plus.
• Experience with Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate, Tomcat, Redis, and Docker.
• Knowledge of network security, authentication and authorization.

Responsibilities

• Work with engineering teams to design, develop and deliver cloud based infrastructure projects on a modern tech stack (Redis, Docker, Terraform on AWS)
• Drive evaluation, development and rollout of new common features and frameworks
• Operate, support, and upgrade shared services and frameworks; scale as usage grows
• Conduct design and code reviews; write unit and functional tests
• Monitor, troubleshoot and fix services and frameworks
• Evaluate system performance and resolve bottlenecks
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers
• Collaborate with architects, QA, product owners, security and operations engineers
