FirstWork is building the next generation of agentic AI products for frontline hiring. We are seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to architect systems that scale to enterprise volume and to enable new product lines designed‑in from the start.

You’ll own core domains, push LLM‑driven features, ensure deterministic, auditable rules, and mentor senior engineers while collaborating with product and customers to turn bespoke requests into platform capabilities.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional backend experience.
• Proven track record in scaling architectures.
• Deep relational database expertise.
• Experience with LLM/vision-model systems and cost controls.
• Strong judgement on distributed systems, retries, and idempotency.
• Experience with multi-tenant, configurable products.
• Results‑driven with clear written communication.

Responsibilities

• Take end-to-end ownership of core backend domains.
• Scale throughput and latency for enterprise workloads.
• Integrate LLM-powered features with deterministic rules.
• Design data models with auditability and compliance.
• Mentor senior engineers and lead design reviews.
• Collaborate with product and customers to translate requests.
• Ensure multi-tenant security and access controls.
