Job summary

Stripe is seeking a Staff-level engineer to design, build, and operate distributed backend systems that move billing data across customers and platforms. You’ll work with product, partner engineering, and solutions architects to ensure reliable invoice delivery, payment workflows, and revenue recognition at scale.

You’ll own and operate core integrations, participate in on-call rotations, and drive migrations with minimal customer disruption, while continuously improving observability and fault

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional backend experience in production
• Experience designing and integrating with third-party APIs with failures/retries
• Experience owning services in production including monitoring/on-call and incident response
• Ability to communicate technical tradeoffs clearly to engineers and non-engineers
• Experience with distributed/event-driven systems and data consistency across systems

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain integrations between Metronome and external systems
• Build reliable, event-driven systems for invoice delivery and payment workflows
• Ship features to control invoicing and revenue accounting from design to launch
• Improve observability and automated repair across systems
• Participate in on-call rotation and lead incident response and RCA
• Plan migrations and changes to existing integrations with minimal disruption
• Collaborate with product, support, and other teams to represent customer needs
