Job summary

Kodiak Robotics, Inc. in Mountain View, CA is seeking a Staff Autonomy Perception Engineer to lead the perception stack, focusing on state estimation and multi-object tracking. You will fuse data from camera, radar, lidar, thermal, and IMU, and develop robust algorithms for scalable, safe autonomous perception.

You will build tooling and metrics, drive design reviews, and mentor teammates, shaping high-reliability perception systems across the driver stack.

Qualifications

• BS or MS with at least 8 years of industry experience, or PhD with at least 5 years, building and deploying state estimation and sensor fusion systems.
• Deep domain expertise across sensor fusion, state estimation, Kalman filtering, particle filtering, and multi-object tracking.
• Strong experience with deep learning and learned scene estimation; know when to use classical methods vs learned approaches.
• Exceptional C++ skills and production-quality code in high-reliability systems.
• Ability to define metrics, design evaluations, and use data for principled engineering decisions.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead the technical direction for learned scene estimation within the Kodiak Driver.
• Architect and implement fusion of camera, radar, lidar, thermal, and IMU data.
• Lead improvements to multi-target tracking including track initiation and data association.
• Develop novel algorithms for robust understanding from noisy measurements.
• Build tooling, metrics, and visualization to accelerate progress and evaluation.
• Set high technical standards through design reviews, code reviews, and mentorship.
• Partner with autonomy teams to ensure perception performance translates to system-wide safety.
