Job summary

Field AI is seeking a Robotics Autonomy Engineer - Perception to lead perception development for real-world robots and integrate sensors like LiDAR, RADAR, and multispectral data. You will own perception software across development and field deployment, ensuring robustness and scalability in dynamic environments.

The role is fully onsite at our Irvine, CA office, working closely with autonomy, controls, and platform teams to deliver reliable perception capabilities for customers and field

Qualifications

• PhD/MS/BS with required years of experience as stated.
• Strong background in robot perception, localization, and mapping (SLAM).
• Hands-on experience deploying perception software in field robotics environments.
• Proficiency in C++, Python and ROS/ROS2 based systems.
• Experience with perception and state estimation (VIO, LIO, mapping, sensor fusion).
• Ability to own complex subsystems from design to deployment and maintenance.
• Comfort working close to hardware, debugging sensor data and real-world failures.
• Strong problem-solving skills in fast-moving, small teams.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and improve perception systems for autonomous robots in real-world environments.
• Develop robust localization and mapping under unstructured/off-road conditions.
• Fuse data from LiDAR, cameras, RADAR, and inertial sensors for perception.
• Deploy perception software on physical robots and ensure production readiness.
• Collaborate with autonomy, controls, and platform teams to integrate perception into the stack.
