Job summary

The Legal Aid Society’s Civil Practice seeks a Staff Attorney for the Immigration Law Unit’s Youth Project in New York City. The attorney will represent undocumented youth in Immigration Court, USCIS, and Family Court, handling SIJS, asylum, U/T visas, and related relief while collaborating with multiple partners to advance client outcomes.

Applicants must be admitted to the New York State Bar and have at least two years of immigration law and trial experience.

Qualifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar.
• Commitment to representing low-income clients.
• At least two years of immigration law and trial experience.
• Excellent writing, analytical, oral advocacy, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and on interdisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Screen and provide direct representation to immigrant youth in removal proceedings.
• Appear in asylum offices for interviews.
• Appear in family court across New York City and surrounding counties for predicate orders.
• Collaborate with Juvenile Rights Practice staff and other agencies for youth in foster care.
• Provide trainings and mentoring to law students, pro bono attorneys, and volunteers.
