Job summary

Disability Rights California (DRC) seeks a Clients’ Rights Advocate to assist individuals with developmental disabilities, working under OCRA. This role emphasizes providing information, advice, and representation on a broad range of legal issues affecting regional center clients, including education, Social Security, IHSS, healthcare, and community living.

The CRA works under supervision and may be based in the Harbor Regional Center with a hybrid in-office/remote schedule.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree required.
• Two or more years advocating for the rights of people with developmental disabilities or related experience.
• Ability to conduct research and analyze pertinent legal authority.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for complex legal questions.
• Experience working with people with disabilities and diverse communities.

Responsibilities

• Work in-person at the Norwalk office a minimum of two days per week.
• Provide information and advice about diverse legal needs for regional center clients.
• Represent clients at administrative proceedings relating to education, benefits, and regional center services.
• Develop relationships with public and private partners to ensure integrated services.
• Investigate and report findings from violations of rights and ensure advocacy.
• Supervise one advocate.
• Develop and conduct outreach and training for clients and families.
