Job summary

Hims & Hers is seeking a Staff Software Engineer on the AI team to lead scalable backend systems powering personalized healthcare recommendations. You will architect platform services, partner with ML engineers to productionize models, and drive observable, reliable distributed systems.

You will collaborate across engineering, product, data science, and clinical stakeholders to push forward AI-powered care experiences while balancing rapid delivery with long-term scalability.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience with backend engineering, distributed systems, APIs, and cloud-native architectures.
• Proven success leading large technical initiatives across teams.
• Experience integrating ML models, recommendation engines, or LLM-powered apps into production systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of scalable backend systems, APIs, and platform services powering treatment recommendations and personalization.
• Architect and build infrastructure enabling experimentation, recommendation engines, and AI-powered healthcare experiences.
• Partner with ML engineers to productionize models and integrate intelligent decisioning into workflows.
• Design and implement highly reliable, observable, distributed systems.
• Drive platform investments including self-service tooling, testing infrastructure, and data pipelines.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to establish reusable patterns and best practices for innovation.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging AI/LLM technologies to improve provider efficiency and patient outcomes.
• Lead complex technical initiatives spanning multiple teams and systems.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership through design reviews and hands-on work.
• Influence long-term technical direction of the MedMatch platform and AI ecosystem.
