Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead AV development toolchains within their AI Cloud and Developer Productivity group. You will mentor engineers, influence roadmaps, and drive production-grade services for scalable, secure developer workflows across GM’s autonomous vehicle platforms.

You will champion best practices, oversee tool integration with cloud-native services, and balance rapid delivery with long-term maintainability in a fast-paced engineering culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years designing, building and operating production systems at scale in the cloud.
• Experience designing scalable, reliable services for production use.
• Proficient in Go or Python and production-scale programming.
• Strong Unix/Linux, SSH, and networking fundamentals.
• Ability to lead, influence and mentor engineers.
• Strong proposal communication and trade-off reasoning.

Responsibilities

• Identify engineering pain points and design scalable, reliable solutions.
• Influence the team’s technical roadmap and evaluate new tools via PoCs.
• Ship improvements to AV development toolchains and services to boost productivity.
• Promote engineering best practices and create supporting tooling.
• Mentor and grow engineers on the team and set accountability standards.
• Balance delivering impact with addressing technical debt and external requests.
