Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Staff Engineer for its AI Cloud and Developer Infrastructure. You will lead a team focused on building scalable cloud services, improving CI-like developer experiences, and mentoring engineers.

This hybrid role centers on enabling efficient, reliable development workflows for GM's autonomous vehicle and software teams. You will influence the tech roadmap, evaluate new tools, and drive adoption of best practices across the organization, helping GM accelerate software

Qualifications

• 7+ years designing, building and operating production systems at scale in the cloud.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience.
• Experience designing highly scalable, reliable, and maintainable services.
• Experience writing production-scale Go, Python, or similar languages.
• Understanding of Unix/Linux, SSH, and networking fundamentals.
• Ability to lead and influence others, and defend proposals with clear rationale.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver under pressure.
• Mentoring and growing junior engineers.
• Passion for self-driving technology and GM's impact.

Responsibilities

• Identify engineering pain points and propose/design/implement reliable, scalable solutions.
• Influence the team’s technical roadmap and strategy.
• Evaluate new tools and technologies via PoCs.
• Ship improvements to AV development toolchains and productivity metrics.
• Mentor and grow engineers on the team; set accountability standards.
• Balance delivery impact with technical debt and external requests.
