Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Staff AI Engineer to help build scalable AI systems and responsible AI infrastructure. You will work across engineering, research, and product teams to design, train, and deploy foundation models, with a focus on governance, observability, and performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in CS/AI/EE/CE with relevant experience
• 8+ years programming in Python/Go/Scala/CUDA/Java
• Experience designing AI systems with tradeoffs on cost, latency, throughput, and accuracy
• 8+ years deploying scalable AI on cloud platforms (AWS/GC/Azure)

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components
• Leverage OSS and SaaS AI technologies (AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, PyTorch)
• Invent model optimization techniques to improve performance, cost, and latency
• Contribute to technical vision and roadmaps for foundational AI systems
• Set architectural direction for enterprise AI tooling, observability, and deployment
• Own design/integration of model routing, caching, and orchestration for hybrid workloads
• Champion responsible AI principles across system design
• Drive internal education and mentorship through councils and guilds
