Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Staff AI Engineer to build and optimize AI systems that power customer experiences. You will collaborate with engineers, researchers, PMs, and product teams to design, deploy, and monitor AI software at scale, including foundation models and multi‑model workflows.

The role emphasizes responsible AI, observability, and governance while leveraging open‑source and SaaS AI tools in a remote‑eligible environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s in CS/AI/EE/CE with relevant AI/ML experience
• 8+ years of experience developing AI/ML algorithms or technologies
• 8+ years of programming experience in Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross‑functional teams to deliver AI-powered products
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI technologies (AWS, HuggingFace, PyTorch, VectorDBs)
• Invent foundation model optimization techniques to improve performance and cost
• Contribute to the technical vision and long‑term roadmap for foundational AI systems
• Set enterprise‑wide AI architecture direction and standardize tooling and observability
• Own design/integration of model routing, caching, and orchestration for hybrid workloads
• Champion responsible AI principles across system design and governance
• Drive internal education, mentorship, and dissemination of best practices
