Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Senior Staff AI Engineer to craft responsible, scalable AI systems. You will collaborate with engineers, scientists, PMs, and product leads to deliver AI-powered products that transform how associates work and how customers interact with Capital One.

Your work will span model training, inference, governance, and observability, leveraging Open Source and SaaS tools to optimize performance and cost while maintaining safety and transparency. This role is remote-eligible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/AI/EE or related field with 10+ years of AI/ML experience, or a Master’s with 8+ years.
• 10+ years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including model training and inference.
• Lead foundation-model optimization to improve performance, cost, latency, and throughput in production AI systems.
• Define and steer the technical AI architecture vision and roadmaps.
• Establish AI safety, transparency standards across model development and deployment.
• Mentor senior technical leaders across research, data, and engineering.
• Drive multi-year platform initiatives unifying data, compute and model lifecycle management.
