Job summary

Thomson Reuters' Global Westlaw Engineering organization is seeking an AI Staff Engineer to shape AI foundations for Westlaw experiences. You will design enterprise-scale AI systems, including agent-based tools, RAG pipelines, and knowledge-graph architectures, while mentoring engineers and upholding governance.

You will work across AI, data, and product teams to deliver trustworthy, high-performing legal research solutions, with a hybrid work model and competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience (Master's preferred).
• 5+ years of software engineering experience, incl. 3 years in senior or lead AI/ML roles.
• Hands-on AI expertise with generative AI, RAG, or LLM-based systems; not primarily data science.
• Strong Python or OO language, with backend service and API design skills.
• Solid understanding of ML principles, evaluation methods, and distributed systems with PyTorch/TensorFlow.
• Advanced experience with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and cloud-native AI deployments.
• Proven technical leadership and mentoring as an IC.

Responsibilities

• Build and architect AI-driven systems at enterprise scale, including RAG and knowledge-graph architectures.
• Drive innovation, evaluate AI techniques, and translate research into technical roadmaps.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor engineers; champion MLOps and governance.
• Ensure quality, security, and observability for AI systems at scale; ensure regulatory compliance.
• Lead cross-functional collaboration to turn AI capabilities into customer-facing applications; optimize latency and cost.
