Job summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking an AI Staff Engineer to shape the AI foundation powering Westlaw experiences. You will lead design and delivery of AI-driven systems, including RAG pipelines, knowledge graphs, and autonomous agents, while mentoring engineers and aligning with governance on model lifecycles.

You will work within the Global Westlaw Engineering organization, partnering with AI researchers, product, and design to deliver scalable, trustworthy AI solutions for legal professionals, across

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience (Master's preferred).
• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 3 years in senior or lead roles on AI/ML systems.
• Hands-on experience in generative AI, RAG, or LLM-based systems, covering discovery, architecture, agentic tools, evaluation, deployment, and metrics.
• Expert-level proficiency in Python or another object-oriented language, with strong backend service and API design skills.
• Solid understanding of ML principles, evaluation methodologies, and distributed systems, plus experience with AI/ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow).
• Advanced experience with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform; integrating AI models into production via APIs and data pipelines.
• Strong technical leadership and mentoring experience as an individual contributor; able to influence senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Build and architect AI-driven systems across enterprise-scale pipelines, RAG, and knowledge-graph architectures.
• Drive innovation by evaluating AI techniques, conducting PoCs, and mapping technical roadmaps.
• Provide technical leadership; mentor engineers and promote MLOps/LMLops governance for model lifecycles.
• Ensure quality, security, and observability; align with ethical AI principles and regulatory requirements.
• Lead cross-functional collaboration to turn AI capabilities into customer-facing apps and optimize latency and cost.
