Job summary

Reuters is seeking a Staff Software Engineer – AIApply in a hybrid US office (Eagan, MN or other listed USA sites). You will lead hands-on development of production backend and AI features, combining C#/.NET with Python for AI/ML, while mentoring engineers and setting technical direction.

You will architect scalable systems, implement AI safety controls, and collaborate across product, design, and ML teams to deliver end-to-end AI capabilities in enterprise software.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive software engineering experience including hands-on development, architecture and delivery of large-scale production systems.
• Strong, recent, hands-on C#/.NET production development experience, including backend services and APIs.
• Hands-on Python experience for AI/ML system development, model integration and orchestration.
• Demonstrated experience personally building and delivering AI/ML features into production, including LLM-powered applications and AI agents.
• Strong platform and distributed-systems engineering experience, including microservices, REST/GraphQL, observability, resilience, and performance.
• Experience implementing AI safety controls, guardrails, evaluation, reliability, and production operations.

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and deliver production backend and platform services using C#/.NET, PostgreSQL, AWS, microservices and distributed patterns.
• Build production AI/ML capabilities using Python, including LLM integration, agents, orchestration, retrieval, and multi-step workflows.
• Lead hands-on AI engineering initiatives across product and infrastructure, including routing, MCP servers, and safety controls.
• Design reliable, scalable, high-throughput distributed systems and AI workloads with caching, queuing, and failover strategies.
• Provide hands-on Staff-level technical leadership, mentoring engineers and guiding technical direction.
