Job summary

Mitutoyo America Corporation in Aurora, IL is seeking a Staff Accountant to join the Corporate Accounting team. This full-time role supports daily accounting, tax compliance, and process improvements in a global precision metrology company.

Responsibilities include posting journal entries, reconciling accounts, reviewing expenses and invoices, managing AP workflows, and assisting with sales/use tax filings and annual 1099 processing. Office-based, Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent education and experience.
• Strong understanding of general accounting principles.
• Experience preparing journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Knowledge of sales tax regulations and compliance.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
• Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post daily journal entries and analyze accounting transactions.
• Reconcile bank accounts and investigate discrepancies.
• Perform monthly account reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records.
• Review employee expense reports and supplier invoices for compliance with company policies.
• Serve as the Accounts Payable system administrator by maintaining: approval workflows, cost centers, approver lists, audit rules, system configuration.
• Administer the corporate credit card program, including issuance, termination, and reconciliations.
• Prepare and file sales tax returns for multiple jurisdictions.
• Maintain sales tax exemption certificates and respond to tax-related inquiries.
• Support income tax filings and tax payment processing.
• Assist with annual 1099 processing.
• Research accounting standards and tax regulations to ensure compliance.
• Serve as a liaison with government agencies and third-party service providers.
• Cross-train and provide backup support for other Accounting team members.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance accounting processes and internal controls.
