Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent required in accounting/finance or related field.
• Strong grasp of GAAP and journal entries.
• Experience with reconciliations and tax compliance.
• Knowledge of sales tax rules and regulatory reporting.
• Excellent analytical, detail-oriented, and communication skills.
• Proficiency with Excel and accounting software.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post daily journal entries and analyze accounting transactions.
• Reconcile bank accounts and investigate discrepancies.
• Perform monthly reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records.
• Review employee expenses and supplier invoices for policy compliance.
• Administer AP system workflows, cost centers, approver lists and audit rules.
• Manage corporate credit card program and reconciliations.
• Prepare and file sales tax returns for multiple jurisdictions.
• Support income tax filings and 1099 processing.
• Assist with tax research and regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate with government agencies and third-party providers.
• Cross-train and provide backup support within Accounting.

What You'll Do:

As a Staff Accountant, you will play an important role in maintaining the company's financial records and supporting accounting and tax functions.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Prepare and post daily journal entries and analyze accounting transactions.
• Reconcile bank accounts and investigate discrepancies.
• Perform monthly account reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records.
• Review employee expense reports and supplier invoices for compliance with company policies.
• Serve as the Accounts Payable system administrator by maintaining:
  • Approval workflows
  • Cost centers
  • Approver lists
  • Audit rules
  • System configuration
• Administer the corporate credit card program, including issuance, termination, and reconciliations.
• Prepare and file sales tax returns for multiple jurisdictions.
• Maintain sales tax exemption certificates and respond to tax-related inquiries.
• Support income tax filings and tax payment processing.
• Assist with annual 1099 processing.
• Research accounting standards and tax regulations to ensure compliance.
• Serve as a liaison with government agencies and third-party service providers.
• Cross-train and provide backup support for other Accounting team members.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance accounting processes and internal controls.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent education and experience.
• Strong understanding of general accounting principles.
• Experience preparing journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Knowledge of sales tax regulations and compliance.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
• Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while meeting deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Corporate accounting experience.
• Experience with ERP or Accounts Payable workflow systems.
• Experience supporting tax compliance and regulatory reporting.
• Knowledge of internal controls and accounting best practices.

This position is based in our corporate headquarters in Aurora, Illinois. The role is primarily office-based and requires occasional movement throughout the office to access files and office equipment.
