Job summary

ChoiceLocal is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Finance team in Westlake, Ohio. This hands-on role maintains accurate financial records, supports payroll and commissions, and ensures robust month-end processes using QuickBooks Online.

You'll collaborate with Finance leadership and cross-functional teams to improve workflows, deliver reliable reporting, and help drive sound financial decisions in a growing digital marketing agency.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on general ledger accounting experience.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, including journal entries and month-end close.
• Direct experience processing payroll and maintaining payroll records.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills for data analysis and reconciliation.
• Solid understanding of general accounting principles, AP/AR.
• Ability to handle sensitive financial and teammate information with discretion.

Responsibilities

• General Accounting & Month-End Close: manage daily transactions, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close using QuickBooks Online.
• Accounts Payable & Receivable: process vendor invoices/payments, support billing, reconcile deposits.
• Payroll & Commissions: process teammate payroll, calculate commissions/bonuses, maintain confidential records.
• Financial Reporting: support monthly reporting, revenue reconciliations, cash flow forecasting.
• Tax & Compliance: assist with 1099s, sales tax filings, payroll reporting, and year-end activities.
• Process Improvement: identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve accuracy.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: partner with Finance leadership and other teams to resolve discrepancies.

About the Role

We're looking for a detail-oriented, dependable, and proactive Staff Accountant to join our Finance team.

This is a hands-on position responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing day-to-day accounting activities, supporting payroll and commissions, and ensuring our financial processes run smoothly.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with numbers, takes pride in accuracy, and is comfortable managing multiple priorities in a growing organization. You'll work closely with Finance leadership and collaborate with teammates across ChoiceLocal to support sound financial decisions and continuous improvement.

What You'll Do

• General Accounting & Month-End Close: Manage daily transactions, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities using QuickBooks Online.
• Accounts Payable & Receivable: Process vendor invoices and payments, support billing activities, reconcile deposits, and help maintain accurate financial records.
• Payroll & Commissions: Process teammate payroll, calculate commissions and bonuses, maintain confidential records, and coordinate with leadership to ensure accurate, timely payments.
• Financial Reporting: Support monthly financial reporting, revenue reconciliations, and cash flow forecasting.
• Tax & Compliance: Assist with 1099 preparation, sales tax filings, payroll reporting, benefits-related compliance, and year-end accounting activities.
• Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows, improve accuracy, and strengthen financial processes.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Finance leadership, Teammate Success, Internal Teams, and external accounting partners to resolve discrepancies and support business needs.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on general ledger accounting experience, preferably in a small or growing organization.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close.
• Direct experience processing payroll and maintaining accurate payroll records.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to organize, analyze, and reconcile financial data.
• Solid understanding of general accounting principles, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
• Ability to handle sensitive financial and teammate information with professionalism and discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Maxio, Ramp, Avalara, or similar financial systems.
• Familiarity with HubSpot or other CRM platforms.
• Experience in a digital marketing agency, SaaS company, or subscription-based business.
• Experience collaborating with external accounting or bookkeeping partners.
• A demonstrated ability to improve accounting processes and efficiencies.
