Sage Search Partners seeks aStaff Accountant for a Dallas-based real estate development and investment firm. This role owns the accounts payable function for a residential development group, while performing month-end close, reconciliations, and project accounting for active projects.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s in accounting, 2+ years in AP or project accounting, and solid experience with ERP systems (JD Edwards, Yardi, MRI, Sage or Viewpoint) and advanced Excel.

Responsibilities

• Run the weekly payables cycle from open payables to sign-off.

• Administer the invoice workflow: approvals, routing, exceptions, and user support.
• Partner with project teams to review costs and keep job costs current.
• Set up new vendors, collect tax documents, and verify banking details.
• Assemble loan draw packages and capital call notices.
• Review expense reports for proper coding and policy compliance.

Job description

Sage Search Partners is seeking a Staff Accountant for a well-established real estate development and investment firm in Dallas, Texas. This role owns the accounts payable function for a residential development group, roughly 70 percent of the work, and carries real staff accounting alongside it: month-end close, reconciliations, and project accounting for active development projects.

The ideal candidate will bring a bachelor's degree in accounting, at least two years in accounts payable or project accounting, and genuine ownership of AP workflows and approvals rather than invoice entry alone. Experience in a major ERP such as JD Edwards, Yardi, MRI, Sage, or Viewpoint is expected, along with strong Excel skills including pivot tables and large data sets. Construction, homebuilding, land development, or real estate accounting exposure is a significant plus, as is familiarity with progress billings and retainage. The client is looking for a proactive, organized communicator who wants to grow past transactional AP into broader accounting and operational responsibility, and the seat is built to support exactly that.

Responsibilities

• Run the weekly check cycle end to end, from pulling the open payables listing through approval sign-off and releasing the funds.
• Own the monthly close on assigned communities: the entries, the accrual work, cost of sales, and how revenue gets recognized.
• Code and track operating invoices and development pay apps in the AP automation tool, making sure each one lands against the right project, the right business unit, and the right account.
• Administer the invoice workflow platform: who approves what, where invoices route, how exceptions get cleared, and supporting the people using it.
• Act as the finance partner to project and development teams, running the monthly cost review and keeping job costs accurate and current.
• Set up new vendors and validate them, which means collecting tax documentation and confirming banking details by phone before any payment moves, then keeping the vendor file clean.
• Assemble monthly loan draw packages for lenders and capital call notices for joint venture partners.
• Review employee expense reports for accurate coding and policy compliance, and run the corporate card program through to the monthly journal entry.
