Job summary

Physician Partners of America is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Finance & Accounting team in Tampa, FL. You will work on accounts payable, contribute to the month-end close, and collaborate with leadership in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

The role requires 1–3 years of accounting experience, especially AP and GL, with a solid grasp of GAAP and Excel. Healthcare experience and Dynamics GP/365 knowledge are a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 1–3 years accounting experience, ideally AP and GL exposure.
• Working knowledge of GAAP fundamentals.
• Proficiency with Excel (pivot tables, lookups); experience with Microsoft Dynamics (GP or 365) a plus.
• Comfort working in a regulated, audited environment with defined controls and approval workflows.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills; clear communicator cross-functionally with vendors & internal teams.

Physician Partners of America is a multi-location healthcare organization specializing in interventional pain management, orthopedics, neurology, and related ancillary services. Our Finance & Accounting team delivers accurate, timely, and compliant financial information that supports operational excellence across our practices, all while maintaining strong internal controls and stewardship of organizational assets.

About the Role

We're looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Finance & Accounting team in Tampa, FL. This role will be involved with accounts payable functions and supports key steps in our month-end close process. You'll work closely with leadership and the accounting team in a fast-paced, audited healthcare environment.

What You'll Do

Accounts Payable

• Process vendor invoices with accurate coding and routing through required approval workflows
• Set up and maintain vendor records, including W-9 collection and 1099 reporting
• Prepare and process check runs, ACH, and wire payments in accordance with dual-approval controls
• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
• Perform credit card reconciliations and expense coding
• Support duplicate-invoice prevention and purchase authorization controls

Month-End Close

• Prepare and post journal entries related to AP accruals
• Assist with account reconciliations tied to the AP subledger
• Support the month-end close sequence, working within established timing and dependencies across all areas
• Assist with variance analysis on select expense accounts
• Maintain clear, audit-ready documentation for all work performed

General

• Support internal and external audit requests with organized, accurate documentation
• Operate within PPOA's internal control framework (segregation of duties, approval workflows, least-privilege access)
• Maintain awareness that financial systems may contain PHI and handle all data in accordance with HIPAA requirements
• Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by the Accounting Manager or Controller

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 1–3 years of accounting experience, ideally with AP and general ledger exposure
• Working knowledge of GAAP fundamentals
• Proficiency with Excel (pivot tables, lookups); experience with Microsoft Dynamics (GP or 365) a plus
• Comfort working in a regulated, audited environment with defined controls and approval workflows
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, especially during close deadlines
• Clear communicator, comfortable working cross-functionally with vendors, and internal teams

Nice to Have

• Prior experience in healthcare or a multi-location/multi-entity organization
• Exposure to HIPAA-regulated financial systems
