Job summary

Vaco by Highspring in Santa Ana, CA is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support payroll-related accounting activities, including bonuses, commissions, benefits and reconciliations.

The role partners with payroll and HR teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance, requiring a strong accounting foundation, hands-on payroll experience, and advanced Excel skills. Prior payroll accounting experience is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• Strong payroll accounting, GL activity, accruals and reconciliations.
• Advanced Excel skills, including pivots and complex formulas.
• High attention to detail and ability to multitask under deadlines.
• Experience with payroll systems and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Calculate and accrue quarterly and annual bonuses per internal policies.
• Calculate employee commissions and related accruals accurately.
• Perform benefits reconciliations to ensure balances are complete and accurate.
• Reconcile payroll activity to the general ledger and investigate variances.
• Prepare payroll-related accruals in line with accounting standards and controls.
• Collaborate with HR and payroll to ensure timely payroll processes.
• Prepare recurring and ad hoc reports on payroll, bonuses, commissions and benefits for management.

Job description

A growing organization is seeking a detail?oriented Staff Accountant to join its accounting team. This role will support payroll?related accounting activities, including bonuses, commissions, benefits, and reconciliations. The ideal candidate brings a strong accounting foundation, hands?on payroll accounting experience, and advanced Excel skills.

This position partners closely with payroll and HR teams and plays an important role in ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Calculate and accrue quarterly and annual bonuses in accordance with internal policies and applicable agreements
• Calculate employee commissions and related accruals with a high level of accuracy
• Perform benefits reconciliations to ensure balances are complete and accurate
• Reconcile payroll activity to the general ledger and investigate variances
• Prepare and track payroll?related accruals in compliance with accounting standards and internal controls
• Collaborate with HR and payroll teams to support accurate and timely payroll processes
• Prepare recurring and ad hoc reports related to payroll, bonuses, commissions, and benefits for management

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
• Strong understanding of payroll accounting, general ledger activity, accruals, and reconciliations
• Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and complex formulas
• High attention to detail and strong problem?solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline?driven environment
• Strong communication skills and comfort working cross?functionally
• Experience with DayForce is a plus, but not required
• Prior experience in payroll accounting or a related accounting role strongly preferred
