Job summary

Sequel Brands is seeking a Staff Accountant to join the Finance team in Newport Beach. You will prepare and reconcile the general ledger, assist with month-end and year-end close, and ensure GAAP compliance across financial reporting.

The role requires collaboration with multiple departments to provide accurate financial data. The ideal candidate has 1–3 years of accounting experience, strong Excel and QuickBooks skills, and a commitment to accuracy and internal controls.

Qualifications

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs).

• Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain general ledger entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions as needed.
• Reconcile bank statements, credit card accounts, and other balance sheet accounts.
• Assist with payroll journal entries and related reconciliations.
• Support month-end and year-end closing processes, including accruals, journal entries, and reporting.
• Prepare schedules for audits and assist external auditors as required.
• Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies.
• Provide support for budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc financial analysis.

Position Overview

The Staff Accountant plays a key role within the Finance and Accounting team, supporting accurate and timely financial reporting. This position is responsible for preparing financial statements, maintaining general ledger accounts, reconciling accounts, and contributing to month-end and year-end closing activities. The role ensures compliance with GAAP standards, supports audits and internal controls, and provides essential financial data to guide company operations. By maintaining accurate records and collaborating across departments, the Staff Accountant helps ensure the integrity of the organization’s financial processes and reporting.
