Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking an experienced Operating Room Nurse to deliver professional nursing care for patients undergoing surgical procedures in a high‑volume OR setting. You will perform scrub and circulating duties, assist surgeons with tasks, and ensure patient safety before, during, and after operations.

The role requires a nursing diploma and current Alabama RN licensure, with BLS certification obtained within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider credentialed within 1 month of hire.
• Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse (LAPRN) credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver professional nursing care in the operative setting for patients undergoing surgical or invasive procedures.
• Perform scrub functions including instrument and supply handling.
• Perform circulating functions including monitoring patient condition and nursing care before, during and after procedures.
• Directly assist operating physician with surgical tasks and patient positioning; prepare rooms and equipment.

Job Description

Deliver professional nursing care in the operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.

• Perform scrub functions including the selection and handling of instruments and supplies used during procedure.
• Perform circulating functions including monitoring, recording and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care of patient before, during and after procedure.
• Directly assist operating physician with surgical tasks including hemostasis, suturing and wound exposure as well as patient positioning.
• Prepare operating rooms and surgical instruments and equipment for use.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Minimum Requirements

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing AND professional licensure at time of hire required.
