Job Description - Sr. Underwriter, Excess Casualty (2400004N)

Position Overview: As a Sr. Underwriter on the Excess Casualty team, you will manage and grow a portfolio of general casualty business by exercising proper underwriting discipline, marketing, and servicing both existing and potential retail clients. The role focuses on retail distribution with an emphasis on construction, real estate, and products liability risks.

Responsibilities:

  1. Perform account analysis according to Allied World (US) General Casualty guidelines.
  2. Develop account pricing, structure, and terms; make recommendations.
  3. Perform and document referrals.
  4. Prepare quotes, binders, and underwriting worksheets within company guidelines.
  5. Maintain organized files in accordance with company standards.
  6. Delegate and supervise work to Account Coordinators as needed.
  7. Attend client meetings, social events, and engage in marketing activities within the assigned region.
  8. Collaborate with Legal for manuscript wording analysis and preparation.
  9. Interact with senior management on referral items and assist in training and mentoring junior underwriters and trainees.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills for internal and external clients.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in General Casualty underwriting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills and multitasking ability.
  • Willingness to travel for client meetings and broker visits.
  • Preferred: CPCU or other relevant insurance designations.
