Universal Logistics is seeking a dedicated Dispatch Coordinator in Smyrna, TN to lead daily dispatch operations, coordinate routes and drivers, and monitor freight movements to meet service windows.   • 0–3+ years in dispatch, logistics, manufacturing, or distribution.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (not required).

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Proven ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily dispatch operations.
  • Coordinate routes, assign drivers, and monitor freight movements to meet service windows and KPIs.
  • Serve as the communication hub for drivers, customers, and warehouse teams; provide timely updates on ETAs and exceptions.
  • Manage material flow by tracking inbound/outbound loads and reconciling discrepancies.
  • Reinforce safety and compliance with DOT/OSHA standards and coach for improvement.
  • Optimize resources by building driver and equipment schedules to maximize productivity and control costs.
  • Triage service issues, initiate corrective actions, and document incidents accurately.
  • Maintain precise operational records and contribute ideas to improve on-time service, quality, and cost.

  • Be the communication hub : Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers, the customer, and warehouse teams; provide timely updates on exceptions and ETAs.

The ideal candidate should possess the following:
  • 0–3+ years in dispatch, logistics, manufacturing, or distribution (transportation/route coordination experience a plus).
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (not required).
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
  • Proven ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Leadership mindset with the ability to coach and support front‑line teams.
  • Working knowledge of TMS/dispatch tools, basic Excel/Sheets, and comfort with dashboards and KPIs.
