Primary Purpose

This position serves as the primary Health and Safety resource, providing technical expertise and managing local safety issues 24/7/365. Responsibilities include ensuring health and safety compliance, developing procedures, raising safety awareness, and sharing information. The role involves establishing metrics, monitoring performance, facilitating culture change initiatives, and performing incident analyses and root cause investigations related to personal injuries and motor vehicle accidents. Success depends on communication and building strong relationships with Operations regions/divisions. Key activities include maintaining safety programs, implementing safety plans, and providing technical support on Health and Safety issues.

Note: The position may require extended hours during storms or energy emergencies.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provide coaching, consultation, and technical support to EED Operation regions/divisions. Support local safety councils in developing and maintaining safety plans. (40%)
  2. Manage the resolution process of safety and health issues, including analysis, benchmarking, risk management, and regulatory interactions. (30%)
  3. Coach and mentor leadership on Safety Culture Change from Directors to represented employees. (15%)
  4. Maintain injury records per federal regulations and oversee the accident reporting process, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy. (10%)
  5. Interpret, advise, and ensure compliance with local and federal regulations (OSHA, DOT). Interact with regulators and external customers as needed. (5%)
Minimum Qualifications

B.S./B.A. in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, or related field plus 4-7 years' experience in utility operations, EH&S, or related field; or 6-9 years of utility operations experience without a degree. Must demonstrate attention to detail, urgency, self-motivation, and results-driven action.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of state and federal safety laws, industrial hygiene principles, electric and gas distribution operations, and EH&S regulations and scientific principles.
