Position Overview

Reporting to the Project Safety Manager, your main responsibilities include implementing and supporting the Site-Specific Safety Plan, ensuring compliance with contracts, safety standards, and regulations. You will verify work execution, collaborate with operations and craft, assist with corrective actions, and provide resources to maintain safety solutions.

District Overview
Kiewit’s Eastern District handles challenging heavy civil projects across the Northeast, including New York, Chicago, Boston, and Washington DC. We specialize in bridges, transit, foundations, tunnels, water/wastewater, and energy/power sectors, with expertise in concrete, steel erection, earthwork, pile driving, and caissons.

Location
This role is based on a large heavy civil infrastructure project in Portsmouth, NH.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, update, and communicate the Site-Specific Safety Plan (SSSP) to all personnel, including subcontractors.
  • Engage daily with craft workers to promote safety program buy-in and ownership.
  • Exercise Stop Work Responsibility to ensure adherence to policies and work plans.
  • Prioritize and problem-solve with field operations based on safety indicators and upcoming work.
  • Support and motivate staff and craft employees to execute the SSSP effectively.
  • Maintain OSHA/MSHA compliant safety documentation, including accident and injury files.
  • Assist with first aid and coordinate with emergency services.
  • Participate in incident investigations and implement solutions.
  • Conduct daily hazard inspections and assist with corrective actions.
  • Review work plans before work begins.
  • Provide safety training on policies, OSHA/MSHA, NCCER, and client requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience supporting construction safety or a nationally accredited SOH certification plus 4 years of experience.
  • Experience with heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • OSHA 30 certification is required.
  • Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, Construction, or related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of construction safety regulations and OSHA standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and attention to detail skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to access all points of a construction site in various climates and environments.

Compensation & Benefits
Base salary: $95,000 - $130,000 per year (varies based on experience, education, location). We offer comprehensive benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and wellness programs.
