Job description

TDJREV is looking for a highly talented, design-driven architect who wants more influence over what gets built. We are seeking a Sr. Real Estate Development Architect with a strong design portfolio and the ability to take projects from a blank page to a compelling architectural vision, then help carry that vision through development and construction.

This is an owner/developer-side position where you will have a direct voice in site planning, building design, architectural character, materials, constructability, and the overall identity of our developments. We are looking for someone who can create, not simply coordinate. Someone who can look at a site and see possibilities, develop a strong architectural concept, communicate it visually, and work with our development and construction teams to turn that concept into a successful built project.

ABOUT TDJREV

TDJREV is a real estate development company focused on creating transformative communities through thoughtful planning, innovative design, strategic partnerships, and disciplined execution.

Our portfolio includes single-family residential, multifamily, mixed-use, commercial, retail, and community-focused developments.

Our philosophy is simple: Build people by building connections through building communities.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As Sr. Real Estate Development Architect, you will serve as a key internal architectural and design resource for TDJREV.

You will participate throughout the development lifecycle, from early site evaluation and conceptual planning through design, entitlement, permitting, construction, and project completion.

Design excellence will be a significant part of your responsibility. You will help establish the architectural vision for TDJREV projects, develop concepts internally, evaluate designs prepared by outside architects, and help ensure strong design ideas are maintained through budgeting, documentation, value engineering, and construction.

You will work directly with TDJREV's development and construction teams, executive leadership, architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and municipalities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead architectural programming, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, and overall design vision for TDJREV projects.
  • Establish and communicate a clear architectural vision from initial concept through construction.
  • Explore design alternatives to maximize design quality, site utilization, marketability, and project value.
  • Translate development objectives into creative, distinctive, practical, and buildable architectural solutions.
  • Provide design leadership across single-family, multifamily, mixed-use, commercial, retail, and community-focused developments.
  • Help establish a recognizable architectural identity and design language for TDJREV projects.
  • Participate in site evaluation, feasibility, due diligence, zoning, entitlements, and pre-development planning.
  • Work with Development Managers to evaluate density, unit mix, building configuration, site utilization, architectural character, and development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Construction Managers on constructability, materials, building systems, sequencing, value engineering, cost, and field conditions.
  • Coordinate design with civil, structural, MEP, landscape architecture, interior design, and specialty consultants.
  • Manage and provide design direction to third-party architects and consultants.
  • Critically review outside architectural designs for design quality, coordination, constructability, and alignment with TDJREV's development objectives.
  • Review construction documents, specifications, shop drawings, RFIs, submittals, and proposed design modifications.
  • Coordinate zoning, building code, accessibility, life-safety, permitting, and plan-review requirements.
  • Participate in development, design, preconstruction, bidding, construction, and closeout meetings.
  • Conduct site observations and evaluate construction for general conformance with design intent.
  • Assist in establishing TDJREV architectural standards, residential prototypes, unit plans, material palettes, and design guidelines.
  • Identify design and constructability issues before they become costly change orders or schedule delays.
  • Produce and oversee high-quality architectural presentations and visualizations for executive leadership, investors, partners, municipalities, and community stakeholders.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a designer first who also understands how buildings get developed and built.

The ideal candidate has a strong architectural portfolio demonstrating creativity, design judgment, proportion, composition, material selection, site planning, and the ability to develop a compelling architectural concept from an initial idea through a resolved design.

Candidates should be comfortable beginning with a blank page. You should be able to evaluate a site, understand the development objectives, explore alternatives, establish a design direction, and communicate that vision through drawings, models, renderings, and presentations.

You must also understand that architecture within a development organization requires balancing design quality with cost, constructability, schedule, marketability, and long-term project performance.

We are looking for someone who combines architectural creativity with technical knowledge, construction understanding, business judgment, and an entrepreneurial mindset.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Professional degree in Architecture from an accredited architecture program.
  • Active architectural license in Texas or ability to obtain Texas registration through reciprocity.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive architectural experience, with 7 to 12+ years preferred.
  • Demonstrated strength in architectural and conceptual design.
  • Strong understanding of composition, massing, proportion, façade development, materiality, spatial planning, and site design.
  • Ability to communicate design concepts through sketches, drawings, diagrams, 3D models, renderings, and presentations.
  • Strong experience preparing, reviewing, and coordinating construction documents.
  • Knowledge of building codes, zoning, accessibility, life-safety, permitting, building assemblies, materials, and construction methods.
  • Residential experience strongly preferred, particularly single-family and multifamily development.
  • Mixed‑use, commercial, retail, hospitality, or community‑development experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with a real estate developer, owner, contractor, or design‑build organization is strongly preferred.
  • Master‑planned community and large‑scale development experience is a plus.
TECHNOLOGY & DESIGN TOOLS

Candidates should be proficient with contemporary architectural design, documentation, modeling, and visualization tools, including:

  • Revit and/or comparable BIM platforms
  • SketchUp, Form·Z, Rhino, or comparable 3D modeling platforms
  • Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat
  • Architectural rendering and visualization software

Strong 3D modeling and architectural visualization capabilities are highly desirable. Experience incorporating AI‑assisted design and visualization technologies into architectural workflows is a plus.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

Success means TDJREV projects begin with stronger architectural ideas and maintain that design quality through development and construction.

The Sr. Real Estate Development Architect will become a trusted internal design resource capable of taking a project from a blank page to a compelling architectural concept, improving designs prepared by outside architects, and protecting the architectural vision through documentation and construction.

This individual will also play an important role in developing TDJREV's architectural identity, design standards, prototypes, consultant management processes, and internal design capabilities.

COMPENSATION

Anticipated Base Salary: $120,000 to $165,000 annually

Final compensation will be based on experience, architectural licensure, design capabilities, portfolio quality, development experience, technical capabilities, and overall qualifications.

BENEFITS
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Cash-in-lieu option where applicable
  • Company‑paid Life, AD&D, and Disability Insurance
  • 401(k) with company match up to 4%
  • Company‑provided technology and hardware
