Job summary

Berkley Technology Underwriters is seeking a Sr. Technology Underwriter to manage and grow a Texas book of business and secure new technology middle market accounts.

You will analyze financial and claims histories, set pricing, and ensure profitability while maintaining client relationships with agents and brokers. The role requires 3–5 years of underwriting experience, strong communication and analytical skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team.

Qualifications

• 3 to 5 years of commercial underwriting experience
• Knowledge of commercial lines underwriting standards, practices and rating/pricing methods
• Knowledge of interpreting coverage forms
• Experience in negotiation and client marketing of insurance products
• Strong customer service, communication, analytical and decision‑making skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
• Excellent PC skills and Windows proficiency
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance coverage

Responsibilities

As a Sr. Technology Underwriter, you’ll be responsible for the management and growth of a Texas book of business as well as the acquisition of new business with a focus on Technology Middle Market insurance customers. You will analyze customers’ business information and claims history, monitor client activities to adjust policies as risks evolve, evaluate acceptability of individual risks, determine overall risk acceptability, coverage terms and pricing to achieve company profit objectives, work with agents/brokers to develop productive relationships, and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and regulators.

• Achieve profitable results by maintaining high premium retention ratios
• Manage accounts for assigned territory
• Handle new and renewal submissions and endorsement requests from agents/producers
• Document underwriting files to support analysis, coverage terms and pricing
• Operate according to underwriting authority as delegated by manager
• Lead renewal business initiatives for territory, including execution of pricing, premium retention, coverage analysis, loss control needs, claim service needs and account stewardship
• Provide clear instruction and guidance to underwriting support staff and operations staff
• Develop sales and marketing skills and strategies to meet financial goals
• Follow established pricing, underwriting and documentation protocol as set forth by underwriting management
• Mentor and coach junior underwriters and underwriting support staff

Remote Work and Travel

Remote work arrangements may be considered for highly qualified candidates with established relationships within the Texas Territory. Candidates must be willing and able to travel throughout the territory as needed.

Education Requirement

• Four‑year college degree or equivalent experience

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary range: $120k–$150k
• Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus

Additional Requirements

• Travel up to 25% of the time, including some overnight stays
