JOB SUMMARY
The Sr Electrical Design (PCB layout) engineer for optical transceivers isresponsible for creating the physical layout of printed circuit boards (PCBs) used in these devices.This involves translating high-level circuit designs into a physical representation, ensuring compliance with electrical and optical requirements, and optimizing for performance, manufacturability, and cost.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Translate high-level design into physical layout: The engineer converts schematic designs into physical layouts on the PCB.
Ensure electrical and optical compliance: This includes adhering to design rules, impedance matching, signal integrity, and optical performance requirements.
Optimize for performance, manufacturability, and cost: The layout should achieve optimal performance, be easily and economically manufactured, and meet any cost targets.
Work with cross-functional teams: Collaborate with electrical, optical, and mechanical engineers to ensure a seamless design and manufacturing process.
Document designs: Create drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
Troubleshoot and debug: Identify and resolve any issues that arise during the layout or manufacturing process.
Stay current with industry trends: Keep abreast of the latest technologies and design practices.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Strong understanding of PCB design principles: This includes knowledge of signal integrity, impedance matching, and power distribution.
Familiarity with optical transceiver technology: Understanding the electrical and optical requirements of transceivers is crucial.
Proficiency with PCB design software: Experience with tools like Altium, Cadence, or similar is expected.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills: The ability to identify and resolve issues is essential.
Good communication and collaboration skills: Working effectively with cross-functional teams is crucial.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is typically required.
Relevant experience in PCB layout design, preferably with optical transceivers.
Experience with high-speed digital and analog design is often beneficial.
