Job Description

We are seeking a Prefab Designer to support our Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) team and project teams in streamlining electrical installations. This role focuses on designing and laying out prefabrication plans to optimize efficiency and ensure smooth execution in the field. The Prefab Designer will play a critical role in interpreting project documentation, collaborating with electricians, and ensuring that designs align with functional job site requirements.

This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with digital construction tools such as Bluebeam and Procore. The ideal candidate will have electrical trade experience, the ability to interpret contract documents, and a keen understanding of design for constructability. While a college degree is not required, prior field experience, an apprenticeship background, and familiarity with permitting and change order processes are highly valued.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with project teams and VDC group to create accurate prefabrication designs.
  • Review contract documents, drawings, and specifications to ensure design feasibility.
  • Identify Requests for Information (RFIs) and gaps in design documentation.
  • Determine material requirements and ensure timely submissions.
  • Develop comprehensive job layouts for field teams.
  • Ensure designs are functional and practical for field installation beyond traditional drawings.
  • Work closely with foremen to provide design solutions that improve workflow efficiency.
  • Utilize Bluebeam and electronic drawings to manage project documentation.
  • Navigate Procore and other construction software to locate and interpret project specifications.
  • Stay current on change orders and permit sets, ensuring all updates are incorporated into designs.
  • Communicate design changes and cost implications to project managers.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in the prefabrication process.
Required Experience/Skills
  • Prior electrical experience, preferably in a field or trade setting.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, contract documents, and specifications.
  • Proficiency in digital construction tools such as Bluebeam and Procore.
  • Ability to interpret change orders and integrate updates into project layouts.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with project teams and field personnel.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to identify gaps and proactively seek solutions.
Nice-to-Haves
  • Experience in an apprenticeship program or equivalent hands-on electrical training.
  • Familiarity with prefabrication processes in the electrical trade.
  • Knowledge of cost estimation principles related to design changes.
  • Ability to work remotely with minimal supervision.
Education
  • No college degree required, but an apprenticeship program or equivalent field experience is beneficial.
