Job summary

Axiom Space in Webster, Texas, is seeking a Senior SME Mechanical Engineer to support design, development, test, and evaluation of structural and mechanical components for the first commercial space station. This on-site role reports to the Senior Manager – Structures & Mechanisms at the Space Station Development Facility.

The engineer will oversee design lifecycle, perform analyses, and mentor junior engineers, ensuring high-quality hardware and documentation for mission-critical spaceflight

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred.
• 12+ years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering related to mechanisms and mechatronics.
• Strong knowledge of static and dynamics, structural analysis, fatigue, thermal effects, materials and lubrication.
• Experience with product development from concept to manufacturing and verification/validation.
• Experience with SOLIDWORKS and FEA tools (Ansys/Nastran) and MATLAB/Simulink.
• Experience with engineering drawings and GD&T per ASME Y-14.5; design for manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Own design, development, test, and evaluation of structural and mechanical components for the space station.
• Execute product lifecycle with regular design reviews and documentation.
• Onboard customer requests, develop requirements and design criteria.
• Perform preliminary analysis using free-body diagrams, hand calculations, and FEA.
• Deliver high-quality, peer-reviewable models and drawings in a fast-paced environment.
• Oversee manufacturing and assembly of hardware; mentor junior engineers.
• Communicate findings to managers, clients, and customers; collaborate across teams.
