Job summary

Axiom Space in Webster, Texas is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design, develop, test, and evaluate structural and mechanical components of the first commercial space station. The role reports to the Senior Manager – Structures & Mechanisms and is based onsite at the Space Station Development Facility.

You will perform analyses, generate models and drawings, oversee fabrication, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with customers and peers to deliver high-quality space hardware.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
• 2–12+ years of professional experience in mechanical engineering.
• Experience with mechanisms, mechatronics, or robotics.
• Strong knowledge of static/dynamics, structural analysis, fatigue, thermal effects, materials, and lubrication.
• Experience with product development from concept to manufacturing, with requirements writing and V&V.

Responsibilities

• Own all aspects of the design, development, test, and evaluation of structural and mechanical components of the commercial space station systems.
• Execute the engineering product lifecycle and conduct regular design reviews.
• Onboard new customer requests, develop requirements and design criteria.
• Perform preliminary analysis using free-body diagrams, hand calculations, and FEA.
• Deliver high-quality, peer reviewable models, documentation, and drawings in a fast-paced environment.
• Oversee manufacturing and assembly of hardware.
• Effectively communicate findings and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers.
• Support collaboration by peer-reviewing other engineers’ work.
• Support and mentor junior engineers.
