Job summary

Axiom Space is seeking a Senior SME Mechanical Engineer to support design, development, test, and evaluation of structural and mechanical components for the first commercial space station. You will be based onsite at the Space Station Development Facility in Webster, TX, reporting to the Senior Manager - Structures & Mechanisms.

You will own the engineering lifecycle, conduct design reviews, onboard customer requirements, perform analyses, and deliver models and drawings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in aerospace, mechanical engineering or related field. Master's preferred.
• 12+ years in mechanical engineering for mechanisms, mechatronics in aerospace/space, automotive or robotics.
• Strong knowledge of statics, dynamics, structural analysis, fatigue, thermal effects, materials & lubrication.
• Experience with product development from concept to manufacturing with verification/validation.
• Experience with SOLIDWORKS and FEA tools (Ansys/Nastran); MATLAB & Simulink.
• Experience creating/reviewing drawings and GD&T per ASME Y-14.5.
• Experience in design for manufacturing and testing; mentoring capability.
• Spaceflight hardware design background and NASA standards preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own design, development, test, and evaluation of structural and mechanical components of the space station systems.
• Lead engineering lifecycle activities and conduct regular design reviews.
• Onboard customer requirements and develop criteria.
• Perform preliminary analyses using FEA and hand calculations.
• Deliver models, drawings, and documentation with high quality in a fast-paced environment.
• Oversee hardware manufacturing and assembly.
• Communicate findings to managers, clients, and customers; mentor junior engineers.
