Job summary

CBRE Laboratory Instrument Services is seeking a Sr. Technician in Cambridge, MA to calibrate, maintain, and repair scientific instrumentation. You will lead maintenance activities and coordinate with clients and contractors.

You will work with test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, generators and counters while documenting inspections and repairs to meet CBRE quality standards. This role requires 2–3 years of related experience and a strong problem-solving mindset.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical requirements.
  • Ability to apply standard procedures to solve routine problems.

Responsibilities

  • Take apart, examine, clean, fix, calibrate, check, and maintain equipment and systems.
  • Operate test equipment including multimeters, frequency generators, counters, galvanometers, logic probes and oscilloscopes.
  • Coordinate removal of equipment for extensive repairs during scheduled maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems during unscheduled work.
  • Record and report abnormal functions or out-of-tolerance conditions and document actions.
  • Review and document daily records of inspections, maintenance activity, repairs, and other work performed.
  • Coordinate with external contractors on repairs covered by maintenance agreements and communicate with customer staff about calibration, repair and operation of equipment.
  • Locate part sources, estimate costs, and prepare requisitions.
  • Track instrument reliability and propose alternate service or parts when needed.
  • Oversee development of equipment, maintenance and calibration procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of standard principles with practical application.

About The Role

As a CBRE Laboratory Instrument Services Sr. Technician, you will calibrate, maintain, and complete the major repairs of scientific instrumentation.

This job is part of the Critical and Technical Services job function. They are responsible for technical maintenance services in critical client environments.

What You’ll Do
  • Take apart, examine, clean, fix, calibrate, check, and take care of special equipment, systems, and controls.
  • Operate test equipment. This includes multimeters, frequency generators, and counters, galvanometers, digital logic probes, and oscilloscopes.
  • Coordinate the removal of equipment requiring extensive repairs during scheduled maintenance periods.
  • Troubleshoot, service or resolve problems while performing unscheduled work.
  • Record and report abnormal functions or out-of-tolerance conditions of equipment. If needed, start corrective action and documentation.
  • Review and document daily records of inspections, maintenance activity, repairs, and other work performed.
  • Coordinate with external contractors on repairs covered by maintenance agreements. Communicate with customer staff and outside contractors about the calibration, repair, and operation of equipment.
  • Locate part sources, estimate costs, and prepare requisitions.
  • Track instrument and part reliability; make alternate service, supplier, and parts recommendations.
  • Oversee the development of equipment, maintenance, and calibration procedures.
  • Have some knowledge of standard principles with limited practical experience in applying them.
  • Lead by example and model behaviors that are consistent with CBRE RISE values.

  • Exchange straightforward information, ask questions, and check for understanding.
What You’ll Need
  • High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with 2-3 years of job-related experience. In lieu of a diploma, a combination of experience and education will be considered. Must have appropriate license or certification where required by law.
  • Meet the physical requirements of this role including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and the ability to lift/carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.
  • Ability to use existing procedures to solve standard problems.
  • Experience with analyzing information and standard practices to make judgments.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Organizational skills with a strong inquisitive mindset.
  • Ability to calculate difficult figures such as percentages, fractions, and other financial-related calculations.

CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training and experience. The compensation range is about $102,000 to $127,000 annual base salary based on experience. The compensation offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications and experience.
