Job summary

CBRE Laboratory Services is seeking an Instrument Services Technician to calibrate, maintain, and perform minor repairs on scientific instruments in client environments on site in Indianapolis. You will operate meters and diagnostic tools, document activity, and coordinate with contractors as needed.

The role requires attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to lift up to 50 lb, with proficiency in MS Office and basic math for maintenance calculations.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or equivalent; 1–2 years related experience.
  • Must meet physical requirements: lift 50 lbs and stand/walk/climb.
  • Attention to detail with ability to follow procedures.
  • Strong math and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel).

Responsibilities

  • Calibrate, maintain, and repair lab instrumentation and controls.
  • Operate test equipment (multimeters, tachometers, CO2 meters, RH meters, oxygen meters).
  • Coordinate removal of equipment for extensive repairs during maintenance windows.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems during corrective work.
  • Document abnormal function and corrective actions.
  • Record daily maintenance and inspection activities.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and communicate status to clients.
  • Locate parts, estimate costs, and prepare requisitions.
  • Support development of calibration procedures; follow CBRE standards.

About the Role

As a CBRE Laboratory Instrument Services Technician, you will calibrate, maintain, and complete the minor repairs of scientific instrumentation. This job is part of the Critical and Technical Services job function. They are responsible for technical maintenance services in critical client environments.

What You’ll Do
  • Take apart, examine, clean, fix, calibrate and take care of lab instrumentation, systems, and controls.
  • Operate test equipment including but not limited to multimeters, tachometers, CO2 meters, Relative Humidity meters, and oxygen meters.
  • Coordinate the removal of equipment requiring extensive repairs during scheduled maintenance periods.
  • Troubleshoot, service or resolve problems while performing corrective work.
  • Record and report abnormal functions or out-of-tolerance conditions of equipment. If needed, initiate corrective action measures and documentation.
  • Review and document daily records of inspection, maintenance activity, repairs, and other work performed.
  • Coordinate with external contractors on repairs covered by maintenance agreements. Communicate with customer staff and outside contractors about the status of the service.
  • Locate part sources, estimate costs, and prepare requisitions.
  • Track instrument and part reliability; make alternate service, supplier, and parts recommendations.
  • Assisting with the development of equipment maintenance and calibration procedures.
  • Lead by example and model behaviors that are consistent with CBRE RISE values.

  • Work within standardized procedures and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
  • Exchange straightforward information, ask questions, and check for understanding.
What You’ll Need
  • High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with 1-2 years of job-related experience. In lieu of a diploma, a combination of experience and education will be considered. Must have an appropriate license or certification where required by law
  • Meet the physical requirements of this role including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders and the ability to lift/carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.
  • Attention to detail along with the ability to use existing procedures to solve problems.
  • Experience with analyzing information and standard practices to make judgements.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. (Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
  • Organizational skills with a strong inquisitive mindset.
  • Intermediate math skills. Ability to work with percentages, fractions, and other financial related calculations.
  • Basic mechanical background.
  • Strong communication skills.
