Perform procedural library work involving moderately complexclerical support for a public or technical service unit in the University Library System. Work activities necessitate proficiencyin library methods and procedures and the ability to utilizeon-line computer systems and standard office equipment.
Perform moderately complex clerical support for circulation,reference and media desk services. Process requests for bookcharges, discharges and renewals; library card registration. Createand process records and holds via the computerized library system.Collect fines and fees; deposit and record on-line status. Ensureproper and accurate shelving of materials. Assist library patronswith routine bibliographic searches (e.g. locate monographs,serials, periodicals, audio-visual tapes, microfiche and film);provide general instruction in the operation of on-line computersystem, e.g. Imagine, Horizon, microfiche/film readers andcopiers.
Assist with bibliographic cataloging and acquisitions followingestablished procedures. Operate computer terminal to access, enterand retrieve information involving multiple display formats and thecoding and interpretation of data. Input, verify, interpret andedit on-line electronic records of journal subscriptions, binderyshipments, subject headings, authority records and other datapertaining to acquisitions, cataloging, bindery and circulation viaOCLC system and bibliographic database.
Perform bindery and preservation functions for the library. Updateand maintain on-line data pertaining to materials in the binderyprocess. Prepare and ship materials to bindery.
Review and verify computer generated reports to identify andcorrect routine errors of on-line data. Compile statistical dataand prepare monthly and special reports regarding departmentaloperations. Maintain and update daily activity logs and work orderrequests. Process invoices to initiate vendor payment; depositfines/fees into appropriate accounts; maintain billing status viacomputerized record.
Provide functional supervision to a large number (7-10) of studentassistants and full and part-time support personnel. Assign andmonitor work activities. Train in appropriate methods andprocedures. Answer and resolve routine inquiries; refer complexproblems to appropriate personnel.
Participate in general office functions as needed. Prepare andprocess appropriate University forms, paperwork and generalcorrespondence. Operate standard and non-standard office equipmentand machines, e.g. typewriter, photocopier, computer terminal,microfilm/fiche readers. Receive and answer telephone calls, takemessages and direct inquiries and problems to appropriatepersonnel. Maintain department files; prepare materials for mail(i.e. interlibrary loan and DALNET information).
Open and close building facility and maintain secure area. May berequired to work evening and weekend shifts. Monitor supply andequipment inventory; order materials and contact vendorrepresentatives as necessary.
Perform related work as assigned.
High school graduate or equivalent combination of education and/orexperience.
Some supervisory experience preferred.
Ability to operate computer terminal, standard and non-standardoffice equipment, e.g. photocopier, typewriter,microfiche/microfilm reader, accurate typing and data entryskills.
Strong organizational skills; keen attention to detail.
Strong concentration; ability to process large amounts of data andmeet deadlines.

This senior classification level is designed to provide moderatelycomplex clerical support for either a public or technical serviceunit in the Library System. Work activities necessitate requireproficiency in various library procedures, e.g. circulation, loan,reference, media, cataloging, acquisitions, bindery, preservationand receiving services. The incumbent is expected to operate acomputer terminal to access, retrieve and enter information viaOCLC, Horizon and Imagine systems. The incumbent is expected tohave the ability to communicate effectively when assisting patronswith library procedures, methods and operations. Functionalsupervision is exercised over a large number of (7-10) of student andpart-time temporary support personnel. The incumbent may beexpected to work an evening or weekend shift. Work activitiesinclude thinking within somewhat diversified procedures. Thisclassification is generally located in a public or technicalservice unit in the University Library System. This classificationreports to and receives work direction from aprofessional/administrative, academic staff or management levelposition.
